Don't Let Bad Exchange Rates Ruin Your Trip

When you're exploring a new country, mental math can be exhausting. Is 500 Thai Baht a good deal for a t-shirt? How much is that 45 Euro dinner in USD? Our Travel Currency Converter is designed to give you instant, stress-free answers.

How to get the best exchange rates when traveling:

  1. Never exchange money at the airport: Airport kiosks are notorious for terrible exchange rates and high hidden fees. If you need cash immediately upon arrival, just use an ATM.
  2. Always choose "Pay in Local Currency": When you use your credit card abroad, the terminal might ask if you want to be charged in your home currency or the local currency. Always choose the local currency! If you choose your home currency, the merchant's bank applies a process called Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC), which usually includes a massive markup.
  3. Get a no-foreign-transaction-fee card: Before you travel internationally, ensure you have a credit card that waives the standard 3% foreign transaction fee. It adds up fast!
  4. Use ATMs instead of exchange bureaus: ATMs almost always offer the mid-market exchange rate. To avoid ATM fees, look for checking accounts that reimburse global ATM fees (like the Charles Schwab debit card for US residents).

Are these rates live?

This tool calculates using standard mid-market exchange rates. Always remember that the actual rate you get from a bank or ATM may vary slightly due to their individual markup policies, but our tool ensures you know the true baseline value of your money.
